EFSA and European Commission Launch #NoBirdFlu Campaign Ahead of Autumn Migration

Brussels, September 17, 2026: The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) and European Commission have launched #NoBirdFlu, a practical disease-prevention campaign ahead of the autumn bird-migration season.

The initiative provides resources for farmers, small-flock owners and veterinarians aimed at reducing the introduction and spread of avian influenza. The campaign focuses on practical biosecurity measures, including controlling access to poultry premises and strengthening cleaning and disinfection practices.

The timing reflects continued concern over the movement of avian influenza viruses through wild-bird populations during seasonal migration.

Industry significance

The campaign reinforces the European approach of combining early risk communication, farm biosecurity and veterinary preparedness rather than relying solely on outbreak response. For commercial poultry producers, prevention remains critical because HPAI incursions can result in movement restrictions, flock losses and substantial economic disruption.
