Antech Diagnostics published results from a multi-clinic validation trial evaluating its Accuplex™ point-of-care multiplex testing platform. The study demonstrated that Accuplex™ achieved statistically significant higher sensitivity for detecting Ehrlichia spp. antibodies in canine serum samples compared to the standard IDEXX SNAP® 4Dx® Plus rapid test.
By identifying subclinical vector-borne exposures that conventional peptide-based lateral flow tests miss, the platform offers veterinary clinics a diagnostic upgrade for early treatment intervention before severe thrombocytopenia or systemic illness develops.
Key Study Findings (published in JAVMA)
- Ehrlichia Sensitivity: The Accuplex test identified 94% of Ehrlichia-positive samples compared to 58% for the IDEXX SNAP® 4Dx® Plus test, using the indirect fluorescent antibody (IFA) reference standard (P < .001). [1]
- Anaplasma Performance: Both tests showed high and comparable sensitivity of over 90% for detecting exposure to Anaplasma species.
- Specificity: Both platforms achieved over 95% specificity, keeping false-positive rates low.
How Accuplex™ Works
-
Technology: Uses a proprietary silicon surface multiplex immunoassay (SSMIA) in a reference laboratory setting.
-
Coverage: Screens for seven vector-borne indicators simultaneously:
-
Antibodies to three Ehrlichia species
-
Antibodies to two Anaplasma species
-
Antibodies to Lyme disease (Borrelia burgdorferi)
-
Heartworm (Dirofilaria immitis) antigen
