HenArt launches fermented-protein dog food with Enifer

Dutch pet-food company HenArt has launched Levendo, a baked, semi-moist complete food for adult and senior dogs that uses Finnish biotechnology company Enifer’s Pekilo mycoprotein. The product is positioned as an everyday diet rather than a supplement, with the companies describing the formulation as meeting FEDIAF nutritional guidelines.

Product and Technology

Pekilo is a fermented fungal protein ingredient. The companies describe it as containing all essential amino acids, beta-glucans and B vitamins. They also report a 60-day feeding study with high palatability and digestibility and no negative impact on stool quality. These are company-reported findings; the available announcement does not provide enough study detail to independently assess the strength of the evidence for the claimed immune-support effects.

Commercial Significance

Levendo is Enifer’s first international consumer launch for Pekilo. HenArt says the product is available online and through specialist distribution partners, with expansion into European pet retail, online retail and grocery channels planned. Enifer is also preparing to scale manufacturing, with full-scale production at a new facility planned for 2027.

Industry Takeaway

This is a meaningful commercialisation milestone for alternative pet-food proteins: a fermentation-derived ingredient is moving from ingredient development into a branded, complete dog-food product. The next indicators to watch are retail distribution, repeat purchases, production scale and whether the product can compete on price, palatability and nutritional consistency.
