Hester Biosciences exploring foray into Covid-19 Vaccine
Hester Biosciences - a listed animal vaccines and pharmaceuticals company based out of Ahmedabad in Gujarat announced that it is collaborating with Indian Institute of Technology, Guwahati for development of vaccine against Covid-19.
Hester Biosciences – is lending its expertise in manufacturing classical poultry vaccines to a partnership with the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati that aims to develop a vaccine against COVID-19. The vaccine will be based on a recombinant avian paramyxovirus-1 vector platform. The partners expect the vaccine to be ready to start animal studies by the end of this year.
Hester stated: "Avian paramyxovirus-1 has been explored as a vaccine vector for various animals and human pathogens. The avian paramyxovirus-1 has been used to express the immunogenic protein of human pathogens such as HIV, avian influenza virus, human parainfluenza virus and SARS-CoV.
Similarly, it has also been explored as a vaccine vector for animal pathogens such as infectious bursal disease virus, infectious laryngotracheitis virus, bovine herpes virus and Nipah virus.
Curiously, the agreement with IIT, Guwahati was signed on 15th of April 2020 but was informed to stock exchanges on 29th of April 2020 and its stock was lcoked at 20% upper circuit on day of announcement.
