Gongwin-KY’s Gwa103 Canine Melanoma Drug Clears Taiwan Technical Review

Gongwin Biopharm (Gongxin-KY, 6617) has reached a significant regulatory milestone for Gwa103, its intratumoral drug-ablation injection being developed for canine melanoma.

The company disclosed that Taiwan’s Ministry of Agriculture notified its subsidiary, Gongwin Pet Biomedical, on September 4, 2026, that the technical documentation review for the new veterinary drug’s market registration had passed. The announcement was issued on September 5.

From development to commercial preparation

Gwa103, marketed in Taiwan as Sipeikang Injection (思沛康注射液), is designed around Intratumoral Drug Ablation (IDA). According to Gongwin, the treatment is intended to act within the tumour and selectively target cancer cells while seeking to preserve more surrounding normal tissue.

The company says it has completed canine-melanoma field trials and previously submitted its Taiwan registration application after completing acceptance of field-trial cases in July 2024.

Gongwin is now preparing for commercialization, including product labeling, supply-chain preparation, veterinary-hospital onboarding and clinical education. The company reports that it has signed letters of intent with more than 100 animal hospitals across Taiwan.

Why the milestone matters

Canine melanoma is an important veterinary oncology challenge, particularly because oral and limb-associated tumours can require substantial tissue removal when managed surgically. Gongwin positions Gwa103 as a potential additional treatment option that could be used under veterinary assessment alongside existing approaches such as surgery, thermal ablation, cryotherapy, immunotherapy and chemotherapy.

The commercial significance extends beyond a single product. Veterinary oncology is becoming an increasingly important segment of companion-animal medicine as pet longevity increases and owners seek more sophisticated cancer-management options.

Gongwin has also indicated plans to use the Taiwan pathway as a base for international expansion, including potential development in the United States, Australia, Japan, China and Hong Kong.

Regulatory distinction is important

The September milestone should be described accurately as successful technical review of the new-drug market-registration submission, rather than simply stating that Gwa103 is already commercially available.

The company’s earlier June disclosure explicitly noted that the product could not be sold before obtaining the required veterinary-drug authorization. The latest announcement indicates that commercialization preparations are now underway following the technical-review milestone.
