Taiwan Introduces Incentives to Increase Dog and Cat Registration

Taiwan’s Ministry of Agriculture has introduced incentives designed to encourage greater dog and cat registration, as authorities seek to improve identification and formal registration of companion animals.

The initiative is part of broader efforts to strengthen the management of Taiwan’s growing companion-animal population.

Higher registration coverage can provide authorities with better information on the size and distribution of owned-pet populations and can support animal welfare, disease-control and responsible-pet-ownership programmes.

Industry significance

Although not a pharmaceutical development, improved pet-registration data can have downstream implications for the veterinary-services, vaccination, diagnostics, pet insurance, pet food and preventive-health markets.

Better population data also provides a stronger foundation for planning veterinary infrastructure and companion-animal disease surveillance.
