The Pet Vet UK Expansion: New Practice Investment and Diagnostic Capacity

UK independent veterinary group The Pet Vet has continued expanding its practice network, with a new Feltham surgery bringing its nationwide total to 13 practices, according to a company announcement published in September 2026. The new site represents a tangible investment in clinical capacity, and the group has now announced a nationwide target of 30 large-format practices.

Feltham: investment in Diagnostics and Clinical Facilities

The Pet Vet’s Feltham surgery at The Centre retail park represents a reported investment of £750,000. The 5,200-square-foot facility is designed to provide first-opinion, preventive and emergency veterinary services seven days a week. Its infrastructure includes eight consultation rooms, three operating theatres, an orthopaedic theatre, a dental suite, an in-house laboratory and diagnostic imaging, including a CT scanner.

The site is an example of a broader veterinary-practice model in which larger premises combine routine consultations with surgery, dentistry, diagnostics and urgent care. In-house capabilities may reduce the need to refer some cases to external facilities, although the actual impact on treatment times, clinical outcomes and profitability depends on equipment utilisation, staffing and case mix.

Why practice expansion matters

Investment in clinical infrastructure can increase the range of services available to pet owners, but it also brings substantial fixed costs. CT equipment, operating theatres, laboratory facilities, veterinary recruitment and extended opening hours all require sufficient caseloads and effective management to generate sustainable returns.

For independent veterinary groups, the competitive question is whether investment can expand access to care while maintaining service quality and controlling costs. For pet owners, larger facilities may offer more diagnostics and treatment options under one roof, but affordability and local availability remain important considerations.
