China: Jiangxi Bio Commercializes Two Vet Products as R&D Investment Rises

Hong Kong-listed Jiangxi Bio (HKEX: 6915) is accelerating its move into veterinary pharmaceuticals, announcing commercialization progress for veterinary tetanus antitoxin (TAT) and pregnant mare serum gonadotropin (PMSG) as it increased first-half 2026 R&D spending by 18.6%.

Jiangxi Bio reported H1 2026 revenue of approximately RMB83.3 million, gross profit of RMB60.3 million and a gross margin of about 72.3%. Adjusted net profit was approximately RMB38.7 million after excluding certain one-off items.

Veterinary portfolio moves from pipeline to commercialization

The company said veterinary TAT has obtained marketing approval and entered formal production, making it the group’s first veterinary product to reach industrial commercialization. The veterinary TAT production line at its Chifeng subsidiary in Inner Mongolia officially began production on 20 July 2026.

PMSG, a reproductive hormone widely used in animal breeding programmes, has also moved toward commercialization. Jiangxi Bio said both the active pharmaceutical ingredient and finished formulation are being commercialized, while it upgrades its PMSG production line against Chinese Pharmacopoeia and EU GMP standards.

The development is strategically important because Jiangxi Bio previously relied partly on third-party suppliers for veterinary TAT and PMSG. Its IPO documentation said production of these products had been suspended from early 2021 while its Chifeng veterinary manufacturing facility underwent technological and process upgrades.

R&D investment rises 18.6%

Jiangxi Bio spent approximately RMB11.0 million on R&D during H1 2026, an 18.6% year-on-year increase, equivalent to approximately 13.2% of revenue. The company said investment is focused on innovative pipeline development and platform technologies.

Its broader pipeline currently comprises nine candidates, including six human-health and three veterinary products. In veterinary medicine, the company reported progress on additional candidates, including products that have received new-drug registration approvals.

Overseas business provides another growth lever

International expansion remains a significant component of Jiangxi Bio’s strategy. During H1 2026, overseas contracts for its human TAT reached approximately RMB27.4 million, covering about 6.859 million units. The company reported registrations or registration updates in India, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Zanzibar and Ghana, alongside government tender wins in several international markets.

Although these orders relate primarily to human TAT rather than the newly commercialized veterinary products, they demonstrate the company’s existing international distribution capability—a potentially useful platform as its veterinary portfolio expands.

AHI view: the significance goes beyond two products

The more important development is the emergence of a human–animal health platform strategy rather than the launch of two isolated veterinary products.

Jiangxi Bio’s competitive proposition is based on its existing antiserum manufacturing capabilities and the transfer of production, purification and quality-control expertise into veterinary applications. The company is also developing technologies covering antigen design, antibody preparation and purification, with 52 authorized patents reported by the end of the reporting period.

However, commercialization should not automatically be interpreted as evidence of major veterinary revenue contribution yet. The company has only recently brought veterinary TAT into production, while PMSG remains in the process of commercial scale-up. The next indicators to watch are veterinary sales, production utilization, regulatory registrations, export approvals and repeat orders.

For the Asian animal-health market, the development is nevertheless notable: Jiangxi Bio is moving from supplying veterinary products through third parties toward own-manufactured veterinary biologics and reproductive-health products, potentially improving control over manufacturing economics, quality and international market access.

Key data at a glance

Indicator H1 2026 / 2026 status
Revenue RMB83.3 million
Gross profit RMB60.3 million
Gross margin 72.3%
Adjusted net profit RMB38.7 million
R&D expenditure RMB11.0 million
R&D growth +18.6% YoY
R&D/revenue 13.2%
Overseas human-TAT contracts RMB27.4 million
Overseas units contracted 6.859 million

Bottom line: Jiangxi Bio’s commercialization of veterinary TAT and PMSG marks a tangible transition from veterinary-product distribution toward in-house animal-health manufacturing. Combined with rising R&D expenditure and an expanding pipeline, the strategy could give the company a broader platform in veterinary biologics and reproductive health—but the commercial test will be whether the new products translate into sustained veterinary revenue and international market penetration.
