Elanco launches CLiK™ Duostar™ in Australia, against Bllowfly Attack

Leading animal health company, Elanco, has announced the Australian launch of CLiK™ Duostar, the first dicyclanil-based product that prevents and treats blowfly strike in commercial partnership with agricultural distribution giant Elders in Australia.
The launch marks a significant advancement in the sheep parasiticide market, introducing a dual-action defense mechanism specifically engineered to combat blowfly strike (Lucilia cuprina)—an endemic parasite that costs the Australian wool and sheep meat industries an estimated A$324 million annually in production losses and animal welfare management.

Dual-Active Elimination and Prevention

Unlike legacy single-active formulations that only prevent flystrike, CLiK Duostar combines an Insect Growth Regulator (IGR) with an immediate knockdown insecticide to offer simultaneous prevention and treatment:
  • 50 g/L Dicyclanil (Preventive): Breaks the parasite’s life cycle by stopping blowfly larvae from developing into damaging second- and third-stage maggots. This ensures 18 to 24 weeks of continuous residual protection when applied off-shears or to sheep with any length of wool
  • 3 g/L Ivermectin (Knockdown Effect): Delivers a direct neuromuscular hit to active maggots. This addition allows the spray-on to effectively treat existing, active blowfly strikes on the animal while simultaneously protecting mulesing and marking wounds during the healing phase

Export Compliance & Withholding Parameters

To preserve Australia’s strict international trade and livestock export profiles, Elanco has established definitive animal withholding safety margins for the new formulation:

  • Export Slaughter Interval (ESI): 9 weeks minimum before processing for global markets
  • Meat Withholding Period: 28 days domestic slaughter interval
  • Wool Harvest Interval: 3 months minimum required between spray-on application and shearing
  • Milk Restraint: Strictly prohibited for use on ewes producing milk for human consumption

The nationwide distribution integration through Elders’ network provides sheep producers with an optimized, higher-concentration dicyclanil option per liveweight band, establishing a new operational standard for seasonal flock preservation.
