Nutramax Launches Consil Matrix Veterinary Wound Care Products

Nutramax Laboratories Veterinary Sciences has entered the veterinary wound-care category with the introduction of Consil™ Matrix and Consil™ Matrix Topical Cream, expanding its companion-animal and equine portfolio beyond its established nutritional and health-support products.

Announced on October 1, 2026, the new products are designed for use in dogs, cats and horses and are being introduced through Nutramax’s relationship with SiOxMed. The central product, Consil Matrix, is an extracellular-matrix-inspired wound-care material made from amorphous silica-based microfibres. Its scaffold-like structure is designed to support clot formation and tissue repair.

According to the company, the silica-based architecture supports fibrin deposition and clot stabilisation, helping control bleeding. The multilayered material can be separated to achieve an appropriate application thickness and is designed to conform to wound beds and irregular anatomical surfaces. Nutramax also says the material helps maintain moisture balance and a protective wound environment while supporting tissue integration and vascularisation during the repair process. These are product-design and company-described functions; the launch announcement does not itself provide comparative clinical trial results.

The second product, Consil Matrix Topical Cream, is a fragrance-free, non-medicated cream intended for routine skin conditioning. It is formulated to help maintain moisture and support skin comfort and a healthy-looking appearance in dogs, cats and horses. Unlike the wound matrix, the cream is positioned for general skin conditioning rather than as a wound scaffold or medicated treatment.

Nutramax is known in veterinary markets for products including Cosequin, Dasuquin, Denamarin and Proviable, spanning joint health, liver support and digestive health. The Consil launch therefore represents a category expansion into a more procedure-oriented area of veterinary care, where wound management products are used by veterinary professionals as part of treatment and recovery protocols.

Market and clinical relevance

Veterinary wound management can involve bleeding control, protection of exposed tissue, moisture management and support for the repair process. Materials that conform to irregular wound surfaces and can be applied in adjustable layers may offer practical advantages in selected cases. However, product architecture alone does not establish superior healing outcomes.

For the veterinary market, the commercial opportunity will depend on clinician uptake, ease of application, availability, pricing and evidence generated through use and further studies. The launch also highlights the growing overlap between materials science and veterinary therapeutics, as companies introduce biomaterial-inspired products for animal-care applications.
