Veterinary Nutrition, Antimicrobial Stewardship and Feline Kidney Disease Feature in Warsaw Programme
Purina Institute will take a major nutrition-science programme to the 51st World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) Congress, scheduled for 13–15 October 2026 in Warsaw, Poland.
Purina Institute is an ongoing Diamond Partner of WSAVA and will sponsor the “Food for Thought” educational stream featuring eight speakers. It is also the exclusive sponsor of the WSAVA Global State of Companion Animal Veterinary Practice Report 2026, which is scheduled to launch during the congress.

Clinical topics
The programme will address several strategically important areas:
-
canine atopic dermatitis
-
antimicrobial stewardship
-
feline kidney disease
-
nutrition in veterinary care
Purina Institute also supports WSAVA committees covering nutrition, education, animal welfare, wellness, One Health and therapeutics.
Why this matters commercially
Pet nutrition is increasingly moving away from being treated purely as a consumer packaged-food category. The emerging veterinary model is:
nutrition → disease prevention → therapeutic support → clinical monitoring → long-term health management.
That transition expands the strategic value of therapeutic and functional nutrition.
Antimicrobial stewardship is particularly important
The inclusion of antimicrobial stewardship alongside nutrition illustrates how companion-animal medicine is increasingly integrating diet, microbiome, immunity and therapeutic decision-making.
Nutrition cannot replace antimicrobial therapy where clinically indicated, but dietary management can form part of broader preventive and supportive-care strategies.

Analyst view
The most significant development is the increasing professionalisation of pet nutrition. Veterinary nutrition is becoming a gateway through which companies can participate in:
-
chronic disease management
-
renal health
-
dermatology
-
gastrointestinal health
-
obesity
-
ageing
-
preventive care
