EDINBURGH, SCOTLAND — Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) has formally inaugurated the International Centre for Animal Welfare Science and Education. Designed as a global capacity-building hub, the centre specifically targets Low- and Middle-Income Countries (LMICs) across South Asia and Sub-Saharan Africa to improve livestock health, welfare standards, and food security.

Core Organizational Pillars

  • AMR Mitigation via Preventive Health: Partnering with regional veterinary faculties to reduce reliance on prophylactic antibiotics by establishing modern biosecurity protocols and optimized farm management.

  • WOAH Alignment: Standardizing livestock welfare metrics in alignment with World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH) guidelines.

  • Applied Field Education: Deploying mobile training units and diagnostic tools to support rural para-veterinarians, smallholder farmers, and regional agricultural authorities.
