Virbac Donates 29,000 IVERHART MAX® Doses to Protect Shelter Dogs Nationwide

WESTLAKE, Texas — In a major initiative aimed at addressing parasite burdens in animal welfare organizations, Virbac US has donated more than 29,000 doses of IVERHART MAX® Chews (ivermectin/pyrantel pamoate/praziquantel) to non-profit shelter operations across the United States.

With canine intake numbers rising and shelter capacity stretched nationwide, internal and external parasites represent a constant risk to animal health, adoption readiness, and shelter resources. Broad-spectrum heartworm and intestinal worm prevention is critical during the initial intake phase, where co-housing and stress increase parasite transmission rates.

Enhancing Animal Shelter Biosecurity and Adoptability

IVERHART MAX® Chews provide broad-spectrum protection against four major parasite threats: heartworms (Dirofilaria immitis), roundworms (Toxocara canis), hookworms (Ancylostoma caninum), and tapeworms (Dipylidium caninum, Taenia pisiformis).

By providing preventive treatment directly to rescue groups and municipal shelters, the donation helps eliminate financial barriers to standard parasite control protocols.

“Providing shelters with effective, easy-to-administer parasiticide treatments ensures that vulnerable dogs receive immediate protection upon intake,” said veterinary team representatives at Virbac. “By protecting these animals against heartworm disease and intestinal worms, we accelerate their path toward adoptability and permanent homes.”

Shelter medical teams report that routine preventive treatments lower overall veterinary expenses, decrease quarantine durations, and help prevent environmental contamination within shelter kennels and exercise runs.
