VMD Sciences unveils VMD Access International at WSAVA 2026

VMD Sciences Launches International Veterinary Product Access Portal at WSAVA 2026 – New platform aims to help veterinarians identify animal-health products and navigate regulated cross-border supply pathways

VMD Sciences has unveiled VMD Access International at the 51st World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) World Congress in Warsaw, Poland, held from 13–15 October 2026. The company says the portal is designed to help veterinary professionals explore potential access to animal-health products through established international export and import pathways. The launch was announced by VMD Sciences on 14 October.

A catalogue spanning more than 3,000 products

According to the company announcement, VMD Access International provides a central resource for exploring more than 3,000 products that may be available through export pharmacies in the United States and other markets. Its intended scope includes medicines and biologics for companion animals, livestock, equine and exotic species, including some products approved in jurisdictions other than the veterinarian’s home country.

The platform also provides access to selected essential-medicines lists associated with WSAVA, the World Organisation for Animal Health (WOAH), the World Veterinary Association (WVA) and Brooke. These resources can help veterinary professionals identify relevant medicines and understand potential treatment options in settings where locally available products may not meet a particular clinical need.

The company’s stated rationale is straightforward: veterinary professionals can encounter situations in which a treatment is approved elsewhere but is difficult to obtain locally, or a medicine is affected by supply shortages. A structured access platform may help clinicians investigate alternatives and the regulatory steps required to obtain them.

Access is not the same as approval

An important distinction is that listing a product does not guarantee its availability, export eligibility, import permission or lawful use in the destination country. VMD Sciences explicitly states that product availability and export eligibility vary by product and destination, and that requests remain subject to applicable U.S. export requirements and destination-country laws.

Veterinarians and pharmacists can request an account, according to the announcement. The platform should therefore be understood as a resource for identifying potential access routes, rather than an unrestricted international marketplace for veterinary medicines.

This distinction is particularly important for prescription medicines, vaccines and biologics, which may be subject to different national licensing, import permits, prescription, storage and pharmacovigilance requirements. Clinical responsibility remains with the treating veterinarian, while any cross-border supply must follow the applicable legal framework.

Strategic implications for the animal-health sector

VMD Access International addresses a practical challenge in global veterinary care: the gap between the existence of a treatment and the ability to obtain it in a particular market. For veterinary practices, this can mean a more structured way to investigate potential options. For suppliers and export pharmacies, it represents a model built around discovery, documentation and regulated access rather than simply product promotion.

The opportunity may be particularly relevant where specialised veterinary products, certain biologics or treatments for less common species are not routinely available through local distribution channels. However, the platform’s long-term value will depend on the accuracy and currency of its catalogue, the reliability of supply partners, regulatory execution and the time required to fulfil requests.

No independent evidence of transaction volumes, customer adoption or treatment outcomes was provided in the launch announcement. These metrics will be important in evaluating the platform’s commercial performance.

Industry takeaway

VMD Access International introduces a centralised approach to discovering potential international veterinary product supply routes. Its success will depend on whether it can translate product discovery into timely, compliant and clinically appropriate access—without blurring the distinction between availability and legal authorisation.
