The 28th Pet Fair Asia, held in Shanghai from August 19–23, has concluded after setting new records for exhibition scale and international participation, underscoring the growing importance of China as a global pet-care market and manufacturing hub.

The five-day event covered approximately 320,000 square metres, bringing together more than 2,600 exhibitors across pet food, healthcare, veterinary products, supplies, technology and services. Official exhibition data put attendance at around 130,000 trade visitors and 390,000 consumers.
Post-event reporting indicates that overseas visitors from 102 countries and regions increased 23% year on year, while consumer attendance on the public days exceeded 400,000.
China’s “Cute Pet Economy” Moves Beyond Pet Food
The strongest signal from Pet Fair Asia 2026 was the continued expansion of China’s “meng chong” (萌宠), or cute-pet economy, from basic pet ownership into a broader consumer ecosystem.
Products showcased across the exhibition included:
-
Functional and premium pet foods
-
Pet healthcare and veterinary products
-
Supplements and functional treats
-
Smart feeders and drinking systems
-
Automated litter systems
-
Companion and monitoring technologies
-
Grooming and lifestyle products
-
Pet fashion and accessories
The shift is strategically important: pet spending is increasingly moving from basic maintenance toward preventive health, convenience, enrichment and human–pet lifestyle integration.
The exhibition also featured dedicated areas for imported premium products, cat lifestyles and human–pet living, while more than 500 new products were highlighted through the show’s Discovery Zone.

China’s Pet Market Is Becoming a Global Growth Platform
The event coincided with estimates that China’s pet economy has surpassed RMB300 billion. A China Business News report published following the exhibition put the market at RMB312.6 billion, with projections of approximately RMB400 billion by 2028.
The increasingly international character of Pet Fair Asia also demonstrates that China is becoming more than a manufacturing base for global pet brands.
It is increasingly a consumer market, innovation market and distribution platform in its own right.
International participation included exhibitors and country pavilions from markets including New Zealand, Japan, South Korea, the United States, Poland, Canada and Thailand.
