Fredun Pharmaceuticals Acquires Furlicks from USV, Targets India’s Expanding Pet-Wellness Market

Mumbai, September 10, 2026 — Fredun Pharmaceuticals Limited (FPL) has acquired Furlicks, a pet-wellness brand from USV Wellbeing Nutrition, marking a significant move by an Indian pharmaceutical company into the rapidly developing companion-animal wellness and preventive-care segment.

The transaction brings Furlicks’ consumer-oriented pet-wellness proposition under Fredun’s manufacturing, product-development, quality, R&D, supply-chain and distribution capabilities. The companies have not disclosed financial terms of the acquisition.

From pet supplements to a broader wellness platform

Furlicks is built around easy-to-administer oral strips, positioning the brand around convenience as much as formulation. Its current portfolio covers skin and coat health, gut and digestive health, joint care, calming, oral care and multivitamins.

The brand’s own product platform describes the strips as rapidly dissolving oral nutrition products and currently markets products across skin and coat, hip and joint, gut health, calming, oral-care and multivitamin categories.

Fredun said its immediate strategy is to scale the existing business through 12 new SKUs in the first phase, followed by another 32 SKUs in a second phase. The longer-term objective is to transform Furlicks from an oral-strip proposition into a broader everyday pet-wellness platform.

That would potentially give the company a portfolio of approximately 50 products when the existing range and planned launches are considered, although the company has not provided a detailed final SKU architecture.

Why the acquisition matters

The transaction is strategically important because it sits at the intersection of three structural changes in India’s companion-animal market:

  1. Pet ownership is becoming more humanised, with owners increasingly treating nutrition, mobility, skin health, digestion and oral health as ongoing wellness priorities.

  2. Preventive pet care is expanding beyond veterinary clinics, moving into retail, e-commerce and direct-to-consumer channels.

  3. Product convenience is becoming a competitive differentiator, particularly for supplements that are difficult to administer in conventional tablets, powders or liquids.

Furlicks’ oral-strip format is therefore more than a formulation feature. It can potentially provide Fredun with a differentiated consumer interface in a market increasingly influenced by convenience, digital discovery and repeat purchasing.

Fredun brings manufacturing and distribution scale

The acquisition also fits Fredun’s existing capabilities. Fredun’s corporate platform spans pharmaceuticals, healthcare, nutraceuticals and veterinary/aqua-related activities, while its corporate site highlights manufacturing and supply-chain capabilities. That creates a potentially useful strategic combination:

Furlicks
→ consumer brand
→ pet-focused formulations
→ oral-strip delivery
→ established wellness positioning

Fredun
→ manufacturing
→ R&D
→ quality systems
→ distribution
→ pharmaceutical operating infrastructure

The resulting model is potentially more scalable than Furlicks operating as a standalone consumer brand.

Preventive pet health becomes the larger opportunity

The acquisition should also be viewed within the broader shift from reactive veterinary medicine toward preventive animal health.

Traditional companion-animal healthcare has been heavily driven by veterinary consultation and treatment of disease. The emerging pet-wellness model adds a larger consumer layer involving nutrition, supplements, dental care, mobility, skin and coat management, calming products and routine digestive support.

This creates recurring-consumption categories that can potentially generate higher purchase frequency than conventional episodic veterinary treatment.

However, the commercial opportunity should not be confused with clinical efficacy. Pet supplements operate across different regulatory and evidentiary frameworks from prescription veterinary medicines, and claims around disease prevention or treatment require appropriate substantiation.

Analyst view

Fredun’s acquisition is strategically more significant than the headline transaction value might suggest.

The important asset may not simply be Furlicks’ current revenue base. It is the possibility of creating a consumer pet-health platform on top of an established pharmaceutical manufacturing and distribution infrastructure.

The planned 12 + 32 SKU expansion indicates that Fredun is treating Furlicks as a platform rather than a single-brand acquisition.

For investors and strategic buyers, the transaction highlights an emerging Indian animal-health thesis:

The next phase of India’s pet-health market may increasingly be built around preventive wellness, functional nutrition and consumer brands rather than only veterinary pharmaceuticals.

The key metrics to watch will be SKU productivity, repeat purchase rates, online customer acquisition costs, gross margins, veterinary recommendation, channel expansion and whether Fredun can successfully move Furlicks from a supplement brand to a broader pet-health franchise.
