EMA CVMP Veterinary Pipeline: PCV2, Salmonella, Avian Influenza, Stem Cells and New Companion-Animal Indications

The September 2026 meeting of the European Medicines Agency’s Committee for Veterinary Medicinal Products (CVMP) provides a useful snapshot of the direction of Europe’s veterinary pharmaceutical pipeline.

The September 8–10 meeting included new marketing-authorisation opinions, variations to existing products, products still under assessment, scientific advice and regulatory guideline development.

Key New Veterinary Products

Cirbloc — PCV2 vaccine for pigs

CVMP adopted a positive opinion for Cirbloc for active immunisation of pigs from three weeks of age to reduce viraemia, virus load in lungs and lymphoid tissues, and virus shedding caused by porcine circovirus type 2 (PCV2) infection.

AviGate S. Typhimurium — poultry vaccine

A positive opinion was adopted for active immunisation of healthy chickens to reduce faecal excretion and internal-organ colonisation associated with Salmonella Typhimurium.

Equine umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells

The September agenda included a marketing-authorisation opinion for equine umbilical cord-derived mesenchymal stem cells for dogs with non-food-responsive chronic inflammatory enteropathies.

Important Pipeline Candidates

The agenda also showed products at different stages of assessment, including:

Existing Products — Important Variations

The CVMP also adopted positive opinions for variations involving:

  • Vectormune HVT-AIV — turkey target species and dose-strength change

  • Innovax ND-H5 — stability data supporting a 36-month shelf life

  • Felpreva — additional tick indication

  • Firocoxib CP-Pharma — horses added as a target species

  • Vectra 3D — protection against Leishmania infantum transmission

  • Credelio/AdTab — safety information update

  • Easotic and Galliprant — pharmacovigilance-related label changes.

Regulatory Direction

Beyond individual products, CVMP adopted or advanced work on:

  • Veterinary antimicrobial product information

  • Restrictions around prophylactic and metaphylactic antimicrobial use

  • Veterinary pharmacovigilance signal management

  • Post-approval change-management protocols

  • User-safety guidelines

  • Topical veterinary product safety.

Strategic / Analyst View

The September pipeline illustrates several structural themes in European animal health:

1. Preventive infectious-disease control remains central
PCV2, Salmonella and avian influenza products remain important development areas.

2. Veterinary medicine is moving beyond conventional pharmaceuticals
Stem-cell and biological approaches are increasingly entering the regulatory pipeline.

3. Companion-animal therapeutic innovation continues
Acute pancreatitis, chronic inflammatory disease, parasitology and pharmacovigilance remain active areas.

4. Antimicrobial stewardship is becoming embedded in product regulation
The CVMP’s work on antimicrobial SPC language indicates continuing regulatory pressure around responsible antimicrobial use.

Industry Implication

For animal-health companies and investors, the European pipeline is increasingly characterised by a combination of vaccines + biologics + specialty therapeutics + lifecycle management + tighter pharmacovigilance.

This makes regulatory capability an increasingly important competitive asset alongside R&D.
