A wave of tension hit Australia’s dairy processing sector following the regulatory June 1 price reveal deadline dictated by the Dairy Code of Conduct.

• The Price Grid: Data compiled across regional collection sheds shows that opening farmgate minimum milk prices for the 2026–27 season are ranging between $8.50 and $10.38 per kilogram of milk solids (kg/MS). Major corporate processor Saputo Dairy Australia anchored the lower end of the spectrum, locking in conservative openers of $8.80 to $8.90 kg/MS.

• The Operational Backlash: The United Dairyfarmers of Victoria (UDV) and Australian Dairy Farmers formally voiced severe disappointment, highlighting that these baseline rates fail to factor in persistent domestic inflation or global market volatility.

• The Squeeze: With raw operational costs for critical fertilizer, fuel, and feed remaining highly elevated, advocacy groups warn that these prices will squeeze profit margins.
