Azerbaijan Launches Large-Scale Foot-and-Mouth Disease Vaccination Campaign

Veterinary authorities in Azerbaijan’s Aghjabadi district have launched a large-scale foot-and-mouth disease vaccination campaign covering approximately 80,000 cattle and 210,000 small ruminants.

The campaign forms part of preventive livestock-health measures designed to reduce the risk of FMD transmission and protect livestock productivity.

Importance of Mass Vaccination

FMD remains one of the most economically consequential transboundary livestock diseases because outbreaks can result in animal-health losses, movement restrictions and significant disruption to domestic and international trade.

Vaccination programmes are therefore an important component of national disease-control strategies, particularly in regions exposed to livestock movements and cross-border transmission risks.

The scale of the campaign highlights the continuing importance of population-level disease prevention.
