ICAR-IVRI Wraps Up Intensive Entrepreneurship Programme on Animal Farming

Government of India is supporting efforts and creating opportunities and financial incentives for youth of India for setting up agri-enterprises including animal husbandyry and dairying.

As an integral part of this initiative  – Agri-Business Incubation (ABI) Centre, in collaboration with the Livestock Production Management (LPM) Section at the ICAR-Indian Veterinary Research Institute (IVRI), successfully concluded its high-profile, 5-day Entrepreneurship Development Programme (EDP) on scientific pig production.

The intensive baseline incubation drive brought together 27 selected agripreneurs and progressive livestock handlers spanning multiple states, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Delhi, and Uttarakhand.

Operational Elements & Training Modules

The program focused heavily on transitioning independent farmers away from legacy, unorganized animal husbandry toward formalized, high-yielding, and biosecure commercial livestock-based enterprises:

  • Scientific Swine Management: Participants were up-skilled in advanced housing architecture layouts, precision breeding protocols, and optimizing Feed Conversion Ratios (FCR) through balanced industrial ration formulations.

  • Biosecurity in the Shadow of ASF: Amid active transboundary threat patterns like African Swine Fever (ASF) in the subcontinent, veterinary experts provided hands-on protocols for farm perimeter locks, strict sanitation regimens, and diagnostic monitoring.

  • Corporate Value Addition: Beyond basic animal rearing, the curriculum covered value-added meat processing technologies and cold-chain supply integration to capture higher market margins.

  • Fiscal Onboarding: Agritech specialists guided the batch through the preparation of Detailed Project Reports (DPRs) to unlock central credit-linked subsidies under the National Livestock Mission (NLM), lowering the financial barriers to self-employment.
