Fortetropin®-Based Nutrition Platform Strengthens PetIQ’s Position in Companion Animal Wellness and Healthy Ageing
PetIQ has expanded its companion animal health portfolio through the acquisition of MYOS Corp.’s clinically studied muscle health product portfolio, adding a range of science-backed nutritional supplements designed to support muscle preservation, mobility and recovery in dogs and cats.
The acquisition includes the Fortetropin® ingredient platform and its associated products, including Myos Canine Muscle Formula®, Myos Feline Muscle Formula® and Myos Healthy Muscle Formula®. Financial details of the transaction were not disclosed.
The move reinforces PetIQ’s strategy of expanding its branded pet wellness business with premium, evidence-based nutritional products addressing the growing demand for preventive healthcare and healthy ageing in companion animals.
Science-Based Nutrition for Muscle Health
At the centre of the acquisition is Fortetropin®, a proprietary bioactive ingredient derived from fertilized egg yolk through a specialised manufacturing process designed to preserve naturally occurring bioactive proteins.
The ingredient has been evaluated in veterinary studies investigating its role in supporting:
-
Muscle preservation
-
Lean muscle maintenance
-
Recovery following injury or surgery
-
Healthy ageing in senior pets
-
Mobility and physical performance
Muscle loss, or sarcopenia, has become an increasing concern as companion animals live longer and veterinarians focus more on maintaining quality of life throughout ageing.
Growing Focus on Preventive Pet Healthcare
The acquisition reflects broader trends within the global pet health industry. Pet owners are increasingly investing in products that go beyond disease treatment to support:
-
Healthy ageing
-
Joint mobility
-
Muscle condition
-
Active lifestyles
-
Post-operative recovery
-
Weight management
-
Overall wellness
Premium nutritional supplements have become one of the fastest-growing categories within companion animal healthcare, driven by rising pet humanisation and greater awareness of preventive veterinary medicine.
Strategic Expansion for PetIQ
The MYOS acquisition follows PetIQ’s continued transformation into a brand-focused pet health and wellness company.
Earlier in 2026, PetIQ completed the sale of its VIP Petcare veterinary services business to Tractor Supply Company, allowing the company to sharpen its focus on branded over-the-counter medications, wellness products and nutritional supplements.
The addition of MYOS strengthens PetIQ’s portfolio of science-driven products while expanding its presence in the premium veterinary nutrition segment.
Why Muscle Health Matters in Companion Animals
Loss of muscle mass is increasingly recognised as an important clinical issue affecting ageing pets, animals recovering from illness or surgery, and patients with chronic diseases. Veterinary nutrition designed to maintain lean muscle can help support:
-
Improved mobility
-
Better physical function
-
Enhanced recovery
-
Healthy body condition
-
Quality of life in senior pets
