Wagmo Expands Preventive Pet Benefits with Wonderdog for At-Home Screening Services

US pet-benefits provider Wagmo is expanding access to preventive pet-health services through a new offering involving Wonderdog, adding screening and at-home sample-collection options to its member benefits.

According to an October 2 industry report, Wagmo members can access Wonderdog screening tools, discounted monitoring services and at-home blood-draw options in two cities. The development extends the pet-benefits model beyond conventional reimbursement and wellness allowances toward services intended to support earlier health assessment and ongoing monitoring.

Preventive screening is an increasingly visible part of the companion-animal health market. As pet owners seek more structured approaches to wellness, providers are exploring ways to make laboratory testing, health monitoring and veterinary guidance more accessible outside traditional clinic visits.

At-home sample collection may offer convenience for some owners and animals, particularly where clinic visits are difficult or stressful. However, the usefulness of screening depends on selecting appropriate tests, maintaining sample quality, interpreting results correctly and ensuring that abnormal findings lead to suitable veterinary assessment.

From pet insurance reimbursement to integrated health services

The traditional pet-benefits market has largely centred on financial protection and reimbursement for eligible veterinary expenses. Newer models are increasingly incorporating wellness services, telehealth, diagnostics, preventive screening and digital tools.

For employers offering pet benefits, such services may improve the perceived value of benefits packages and support employee engagement. For service providers, the opportunity lies in building recurring relationships with pet owners while connecting screening and monitoring to appropriate veterinary care.

However, preventive testing is not automatically beneficial in every animal or at every life stage. Screening programmes need to consider age, breed, medical history, risk factors and the potential for false-positive or clinically insignificant findings. Veterinary oversight is essential to prevent unnecessary testing, anxiety or inappropriate treatment.

Commercial outlook

The Wagmo–Wonderdog arrangement illustrates the potential for partnerships to expand access to services without requiring every benefits provider to build its own diagnostics infrastructure.

Its commercial relevance will depend on adoption, service availability, pricing, clinical integration and the ability to demonstrate meaningful value to members and employers. The reported availability in two cities also indicates that the service is not yet a universal nationwide offering.

For the broader animal-health industry, the development is another signal that companion-animal healthcare is expanding into a more connected ecosystem involving veterinary practices, diagnostics providers, digital platforms, employers and consumer-facing wellness services.
