World Veterinary Association Endorses UN Pandemic Declaration

BRUSSELS, BELGIUM — The World Veterinary Association (WVA) has formally endorsed the adoption of the United Nations High-Level Declaration on Pandemic Prevention, Preparedness, and Response (PPPR). The declaration establishes international commitments to strengthen cross-sectoral pandemic defense mechanisms.

The WVA urged member nations to operationalize One Health principles by granting veterinary authorities equal seat and funding alongside human health agencies. The association emphasized that effective global disease prevention requires embedding real-time livestock and wildlife biosurveillance into national health security architecture to capture zoonotic spillover threats before human transmission occurs.
