The 77th Annual Meeting of the European Federation of Animal Science (EAAP) officially opened today at the Congress Center Hamburg (CCH), running from September 7 through September 11, 2026. The conference convenes an estimated 1,600 to 2,000 delegates—including leading animal scientists, ag-tech innovators, industry executives, and policymakers—from more than 60 countries.
Hosted in collaboration with the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) and the German Society for Animal Production (DGfZ), this year’s congress centers on the theme “Shaping resilient livestock systems for circular agriculture”.

Over the five-day event, nearly 100 dedicated technical sessions across 12 study commissions will focus on four core pillars:
-
Animal Health & Welfare: Biosecurity strategies, disease prevention, and alternative therapeutics aimed at reducing livestock mortality and reliance on antimicrobials.
-
Climate Resilience & Methane Reduction: Novel feed additives, breeding strategies, and management frameworks designed to lower the carbon and methane footprint of cattle, swine, and poultry production.
-
Circular Farming Systems: Upcycling industrial food-byproducts into animal feed, manure nutrient cycling, and integrating crop-livestock ecosystems to close resource loops.
-
Precision Livestock Farming (PLF): IoT sensors, computer vision, real-time health monitoring, and AI-driven herd management software.
Industry Intelligence Signal: What to Watch
While the EAAP Annual Meeting is primarily an academic and scientific congress, it serves as an early-stage barometer for commercial ag-tech trends, corporate sustainability strategies, and upcoming European regulatory shifts. Industry stakeholders should monitor the following areas throughout the week:
Key Intelligence Domain |
What to Expect / Watch For |
Commercialization & Licensing |
Announcements from animal health majors (e.g., Zoetis, Elanco, Boehringer Ingelheim) and specialty feed producers partnering with universities to commercialize novel feed additives or diagnostics |
Precision Agriculture Startups |
Pilot trial disclosures and venture-stage announcements regarding AI-driven monitoring systems, computer vision for welfare assessments, and automated intake trackers |
Genomic & Breeding Trends |
Unveiling of updated genetic rankings and breeding indexes prioritizing heat tolerance, feed efficiency, and longevity alongside traditional yield metrics |
Regulatory & Policy Alignment |
Guidance and research consensus that could inform upcoming European Union animal welfare legislation, carbon reporting standards, and emissions mandates |
