Situation update

Mongolia: Since its first report on 15 January 2019, Mongolia reported two waves of ASF outbreaks in 2019 and 2023-2024, both in the northern parts of the country and in Ulaanbaatar. On 8 January 2025, a new outbreak occurred in Bayankhutag sum (district).

Democratic People’s Republic of Korea: The Ministry of Agriculture confirmed the occurrence of the first ASF outbreak in Chagang-do on 23 May 2019. Media also reported ASF outbreaks in 2024 in Anju City, Bukchang-gun, Mundeok-gun and Gaecheon City in Pyeongannam-do, in the central part of the country. According to media, ASF emerged in farms under the Pyongannam-do provincial livestock management bureau, affecting many of its 16 pig farms.

Republic of Korea: Since the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (MAFRA) confirmed the first ASF outbreak on 17 September 2019, ASF outbreaks were confirmed in 79 domestic pig farms: Gyeonggi-do (32), Incheon City (5), Gangwon-do (21), Gyeongsangbuk-do (6), Chungcheongnam-do (4), Jeollanam-do (4), Jeollabuk-do (2), Gyeongsangnam-do (5); and in 4 512 wild boars in Gyeonggi-do, Gangwon-do, Chungcheongbuk-do, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Ulsan City, Busan City, and Daegu City. In 2026, 24 ASF outbreaks in domestic pigs have been confirmed in multiple provinces, exceeding three times the total number reported in 2025. Most virus isolates from domestic pigs were consistently classified as IGR-I, except for isolates from two outbreaks in Pocheon City, which were classified as IGR-II. In parallel, detections of ASF-positive wild boars have shown a marked increase during the first months of 2026, rising from 14 detections in January to 63 in February and 62 in March, declining to 30 in April, dropping sharply to 8 in May, 10 in June and 9 in July.

China: Since the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs (MARA) confirmed the first outbreak in Liaoning Province on 3 August 2018, ASF was reported in 32 provinces/autonomous regions/municipalities/special administrative regions. The latest ASF outbreak was in December 2025 on a farm in Hong Kong SAR.

Pig carcasses were found on the Xintou Beach, Jinhu Township on 14 July 2026 and at shore of the Cihu Seawall on 2 August, Kinmen County, Taiwan Province, and both tested positive for ASF. The virus from the carcass of 14 July was a recombinant strain currently circulating in China, had 99.78 – 100% similarity to the HK/DP/2024/KT-00117-2/16 (GenBank: PX277559.1)

The Philippines Since the Department of Agriculture (DA) confirmed the first outbreak in July 2019, 76 of its 82 provinces have experienced ASF outbreaks; as of 7 August 2026, 65 barangays in 41 cities/municipalities of 20 provinces reported having active ASF cases. On Negros, new ASF cases were reported in Siaton, Amlan, Tanjay City, Zamboanguita and Pamplona. On Mindanao, a large number of pig deaths have been reported in villages such as San Roque, Tumaga, Culianan, Manicahan, Curuan, Vitali and Capisan, mostly in backyard. Some have died of ASF while others are under investigation. In Lamitan City, 113 pig raisers were affected by ASF in July 2026, with the index case suspected to be linked to swine movement from Zamboanga City .

Singapore: The first cases of ASF were confirmed in February 2023 in wild boar carcasses. In April 2023, ASF was detected at a slaughterhouse in pigs imported from Bulan Island, Indonesia.

Malaysia: The first ASF outbreaks were confirmed in February 2021 in Sabah State on Borneo. Since then, a total of 241 outbreaks have been detected in both domestic and wild pigs: 2021 (Borneo 65/Peninsula 24), 2022 (10/52), 2023 (0/28), 2024 (0/1), 2025 (3/58). In 2026, ASF outbreaks were reported in domestic pigs in Selangor and Sarawak states.

Indonesia: Since the Ministry of Agriculture (MoA) reported an ASF outbreak in North Sumatra Province in 2019, ASF has been officially reported in 32 out of 34 provinces across Sumatera, Bangka Belitung, Riau, Java, Kalimantan, Bali, Sunda, Sulawesi and New Guinea Islands. ASF cases in wild boar populations have been reported in Sumatera Island since 2020 and also on Kalimantan and Sulawesi Islands. Media reported that dead domestic pigs had been observed in Bali for three months before ASF outbreak was confirmed in May 2026. In June, two ASF outbreaks emerged in East Kalimantan, while in West Sulawesi Province, an ASF outbreak was confirmed in Polewali Mandar Regency, which was linked to the introduction of new pigs from Mamasa Regency for a community celebration. The ASF spread continued in July with 6 new outbreaks confirmed across West Sulawesi (1), Central Sulawesi (2), East Nusa Tenggara (2) and South Papaua (1) provinces.

Papua New Guinea: The National Agriculture Quarantine and Inspection Authority (NAQIA) confirmed ASF outbreaks in Southern Highlands Province in March 2020. The ASF status has been: infected zone – Hela, Southern Highlands, Western Highlands, Enga and Jiwaka provinces; buffer zone – Eastern Highlands and Simbu provinces; and non-infected zone – the rest of the country. New ASF outbreaks have been reported in East Sepik Province in December 2025 and most recently ASF cases were reported in Madang Province for the first time in domestic and feral pigs July 2026.

Viet Nam: Since the first ASF outbreak was confirmed on 19 February 2019, all provinces/municipalities have experienced outbreaks. The number of outbreaks has decreased from >6 000 outbreaks (2019) to 1 256 (2022), 714 in 2023, but increased to 1 609 in 2024. In 2025, a total of 2 782 outbreaks were confirmed nationwide, resulting in the culling of more than 1.27 million pigs, which represents a more than 13-fold increase in the number of pigs culled compared to 2024. The peak of outbreaks occurred in July and August, primarily affecting small-scale farms that failed to meet biosecurity standards. In 2026, as of 10 August, ASF outbreaks have been reported in 28 provinces/municipalities, leading to the destruction of over 118 000 pigs.

Lao People’s Democratic Republic: Since the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry confirmed the first outbreak in Salavan Province on 20 June 2019, ASF outbreaks were reported in all 18 provinces. On 19 February 2025, an ASF outbreak was confirmed in Thathon District, Xaysomboun Province.

Cambodia: Since the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries confirmed the first outbreak in Ratanakiri Province in April 2019, ASF outbreaks were detected in five provinces namely Rottanakikiri, Tbong Khmom, Svayrieng, Takeo and Kandal provinces. The latest confirmed ASF outbreaks occurred in late July 2025 in village/backyard pigs in Siem Reap, Kampong Cham and Battambang provinces.

Thailand: Department of Livestock Development (DLD) announced in January 2022 the confirmation of ASF in pet pigs in Bangkok. A total of 114 outbreaks in 35 out of 77 provinces/special administrative areas were reported during the epidemic. The latest reported outbreak was in Chiang Mai Province in June 2024.

Myanmar: Since the Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation confirmed the first ASF outbreak in August 2019, a total of 12 outbreaks have been reported in Shan (8), Kachin (1), Kayah (1) states, and Sagaing Region (2). The last reported outbreak was in August 2023 in Shan State near Lao-Myanmar-Thai border. In late 2025, media reports indicated new outbreaks and high suspected ASF-related pig mortality in Launglon Township, Dawei District, Tanintharyi Division. According to the report, the outbreaks started in early November, and a large number of pigs have subsequently died.

Bangladesh: The first ASF outbreak in Bangladesh was reported on 21 December 2023 on a government development pig farm located in Rangamati Sadar in Rangamati District, Chittagong Division.

Bhutan: Since the first ASF outbreak occurred in May 2021, ASF outbreaks in domestic pigs have been reported in ten districts, including detection in wild boars in Bumthang District.  In 2026, ASF outbreaks were confirmed in domestic pigs in Chhukha, Samdrup Jongkhar, Samtse, Chhukha and Punakha districts. The latest outbreak was reported on a backyard farm in Samtse District on 9 July 2026.

Nepal: Since the first ASF outbreaks occurred in Kathmandu Valley in March 2022, ASF outbreaks were detected in all seven provinces namely Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali, Koshi (Province No.1), Lumbini, Madhesh and Sudurpashchim. In 2026, 13 outbreaks were reported in domestic pigs in Koshi, Gandaki, Bagmati and Sudurpashchim provinces in January, February, March and June. New ASF outbreaks were confirmed in Bheriganga Municipality, Surkhet District, Karnali Province in July 2026. Meanwhile, media reported that three wild boars died due to ASF at the Central Zoo in Jawalakhel, Lalitpur, Bagmati Province also in July 2026.

India: Since the first ASF outbreaks occurred in Assam State in January 2020, ASF outbreaks have officially been reported in 22 out of its 28 states and National Capital Territory. In 2024, more than 150 000 pigs died or were destroyed due to ASF. In Nagaland State, ASF outbreaks have been reported in Dimapur, Medziphema, Tseminyu, and Phek districts in May and Kohima and Wokha districts in June 2026. In July 2026, Kohima District faced a fresh wave of outbreaks reported in Kohima, Mezoma and Peducha villages and Razha Area in July, in addition to T. Khel Model Village and Khikha Colony reported in June while media also reported cases in State Pig Breeding Centre in Akuluto which has spread to multiple areas in Zunheboto District. In Assam State, new ASF outbreaks have been confirmed in Tinsukia, Kamrup, Dibrugarh and Nagaon in 2026; media also reported ASF outbreaks in Lakhimpur, Charaideo, Sonitpur  and Golaghat in July. In Mizoram State, ASF is spreading in Saitual Town and Saitual District. In Meghalaya State, ASF outbreaks re-emerged in April and have been confirmed in five districts (Ri-Bhoi, East Khasi Hills, West Khasi Hills, Eastern West Khasi Hills and East Jaintia Hills), with Ri-Bhoi the most affected district, where media also reported confirmed cases in the Regional Pig Breeding Farm at Kyrdemkulai. In Gujarat Sate, new suspected cases were reported by media in August 2026 after approximately 200 pigs have died in Ambaji area. In Kerala State, media reported new outbreaks on pig farms in June 2026.
