Swine Innovation Porc Opens 2026–27 Research Funding Programme

Swine Innovation Porc, with support from the Pork Promotion and Research Agency, has opened its 2026–27 Advancing Swine Research programme to fund projects addressing major challenges facing the pork industry.

The programme supports both longer-term discovery and applied research projects, with funding of up to C$150,000 over three years for larger projects. Short-term proof-of-concept and economic-impact projects are generally funded at less than C$50,000.

Priority areas include:

• endemic animal diseases;

• antimicrobial use and resistance;

• biosecurity;

• production efficiency;

• pork safety and quality;

• energy efficiency;

• emissions; and

• water efficiency.

Letters of intent are due November 13, 2026, with full proposals scheduled for February 2027.

Strategic Importance

The research agenda demonstrates how modern swine research increasingly connects animal health with production economics, antimicrobial stewardship, environmental performance and food safety.

Analyst View

The most commercially relevant projects are likely to be those that can translate research into deployable farm tools.

The focus on biosecurity, antimicrobial resistance and endemic disease is particularly important because these areas can influence both production efficiency and market access.
