Zoetis to Acquire VitalRADS as Veterinary Diagnostics Expansion Accelerates

Deal will add 24-hour veterinary imaging support, more than 1,800 active customers and cloud-based diagnostic services to Zoetis’ growing animal diagnostics business

PARSIPPANY, New Jersey, July 14, 2026: Zoetis has agreed to acquire VitalRADS, a veterinary imaging and specialist reporting company, in another major expansion of its global animal diagnostics business.

The deal builds on a partnership between Zoetis and VitalRADS announced in August 2025. Financial terms have not been disclosed. The acquisition is expected to close in the third quarter of 2026, subject to regulatory approvals and other closing conditions.

What is VitalRADS?

VitalRADS helps veterinary clinics obtain specialist reviews of animal X-rays and other medical images without needing a radiologist physically present at the clinic.

Its cloud-based service gives veterinary teams around-the-clock access to board-certified specialists. VitalRADS specialists review:

  • Digital X-rays

  • Ultrasound images

  • CT scans

  • MRI scans

  • ECG heart recordings

  • Nuclear medicine scans

The service covers more than 25 animal species. VitalRADS offers same-day results and two-hour urgent case reviews.

VitalRADS already serves more than 1,800 customers

The size of the VitalRADS network makes the acquisition particularly important for Zoetis. The company supports more than 1,800 active customers, including independent veterinary practices, corporate veterinary groups and universities.

VitalRADS also provides mobile ultrasound services in the Greater Houston and Greater Seattle regions. This business serves more than 200 veterinary clinics, with portable ultrasound equipment used to perform scans at veterinary practices.

The company additionally operates an outpatient imaging centre in Cypress, Texas, for dogs and cats.

Zoetis is building a wider veterinary diagnostics network

The acquisition is about much more than reading veterinary X-rays. Zoetis plans to integrate VitalRADS into its Global Diagnostics portfolio and expand what it calls a Virtual Reference Lab.

In simple terms, Zoetis wants to connect diagnostic testing, animal medical images, specialist review and digital reporting within a wider veterinary diagnostic system.

The company says the combined service will include computer-assisted report preparation and quality checks, while veterinary specialists remain involved in reviewing diagnostic information.

VitalPACS adds cloud image storage to Zoetis diagnostics

Another important part of the acquisition is VitalPACS, VitalRADS’ cloud image storage system. The platform stores veterinary medical images and can connect directly with medical record systems used by veterinary clinics.

For veterinarians, this can make it easier to store, retrieve and share diagnostic images while keeping imaging work connected with patient records.

Veterinary specialist shortages make remote diagnostics increasingly important

The deal also highlights a wider change in veterinary medicine. Not every veterinary hospital has an imaging specialist available on site. Complex X-rays, CT scans and MRI images may require review by veterinarians with advanced specialist training.

Remote veterinary imaging services allow clinics to send images electronically for expert review. Zoetis already offers VitalRADS-powered veterinary imaging services through its diagnostics platform, with access to specialists in radiology, cardiology, dentistry and neurology.

Acquiring VitalRADS would bring these capabilities directly into the Zoetis diagnostics business.

Zoetis continues its diagnostics acquisition strategy

The VitalRADS agreement is the latest sign that Zoetis is expanding beyond medicines and vaccines into veterinary diagnostics, data and connected clinical services.

Earlier in 2026, Zoetis agreed to acquire Neogen’s animal genomics business for $160 million. The company has also expanded its reference laboratory presence through other diagnostics acquisitions. VitalRADS now adds veterinary imaging and specialist reporting to this strategy.

Why the VitalRADS acquisition matters

For Zoetis, the deal adds specialist veterinary expertise, cloud-based imaging services, more than 1,800 active customers and an established veterinary image management platform.

For veterinary clinics, the larger question is whether connecting diagnostic equipment, laboratory services, medical imaging and specialist reviews can help veterinarians reach answers faster.

The VitalRADS acquisition shows where Zoetis is heading: from selling animal health products towards building a much broader veterinary diagnostics network.
